We are taking part in an autogas challenge to raise awareness of autogas in the UK with our own Land Rover Discovery V8. On September 9th 2010, 22 assorted vehicles all running on LPG / Autogas, will be setting off from Lands End in Cornwall to John O' Groats Scotland. The challenge is to drive economically, so that the percentage difference between petrol and LPG is as small as possible. OEM's, Main dealers, autogas converters, and the general public can all compete to win this national award. We need to raise awareness of the LPG industry by doing things that is very simple, that people can understand. After the trip is completed, there are the findings of the trip such as vehicle did what MPG / CO2 and what that would mean for the average motorist who is looking at alternative fuels, how easy was it to find, what is the national average price for LPG. Our Land Rover Discovery is a 1994, 3.9 litre V8 automatic. It has been equipped with FEMA Sequential Injection LPG system coupled to, 1 x 80 litre Practo 4 hole ellipsoid tank and 2 x 30 litre Stako 4 hole cylinder tanks.
The suspension system consists of Koni gas shock absorbers in conjunction with heavy duty coil springs. The engine is fitted with an Unifilter air filter and filled with Valvoline 20W50 Racing oil. The combined mpg figure for petrol is 15mpg whilst achieving 14mpg on LPG. The drivers are Mark Wain the proprietor and Mark Howling the co-driver. We will be competing against other participants which include two vans that will be doing this trip on LPG Diesel blend and a Toyota Prius which will be a Tri fuel vehicle on this occasion. Awards will be awarded for the following _ The closest MPG between Autogas and Petrol _ The best trifle vehicle which is closest MPG between Autogas / electric, and Petrol / electric _ The Best MPG from a Vehicle on Diesel/LPG (Diesel blend) _ The Best MPG from a Vehicle on Autogas (only) _ The Best MPG from a Vehicle on Petrol (only) _ The Best Poker hand _ The oldest vehicle to complete the trip under its own power. We are also looking for sponsorship and advertising for our Land Rover Discovery V8 . We will be keeping a diary leading up to and including the event and return trip to workshop.
